Peter is a Chimney Sweep - A traditional third generation sweeping business with the experience, training and backup that provides exceptional service.

Why should you have your chimney swept?

Fire Prevention - Chimney fires are caused by the build up of tar and resin in the flue. Regular sweeping will minimise the risk.

What about Carbon Monoxide?

Even a partially blocked flue may cause Carbon Monoxide to enter your rooms and not just the room with the appliance it can find its way into any adjacent rooms. It is colourless, odourless and can be deadly.

How often should you have your chimney swept?

This depends upon what fuel you use and how often you use it. A minimum should be once every twelve months if you intend to use the appliance. Wood and Bitumous Coal - quarterley when in use. Gas, oil and smoke less fuel once every twelve months.

Clean, Professional, Honest

Being fully trained and a member of Sweep Safe all the work is fully certified using insurance approved certificates.
Using modern techniques and equipment such as a Hazard vacuum with HEPA filters (H13 Hepa - 99.95% - Type H to (IEC 60 335-2-69)) and double dust sheeting, cleanliness is guaranteed. Insurance backed with NFU specialist chimney sweep insurance and a CRB / Disclosure-Barring-Service certificate to give the homeowner confidence in the service provided.

Traditional Chimneys

Open fires come in all sorts and sizes from standard open fires to very large inglenooks and from back boilers to cast iron ranges. Each fire has its own flue design and construction from clay lined, to square brick, to lime mortar lined. Each fire and flue requires certain methods using specialist equipment to clean correctly and to avoid damage.

Stoves and Woodburners

Stoves and woodburners require sweeping regulary not just to avoid blockages and chimney fires but also to protect any liner that may be fitted from corrosion. Not all appliances require a liner to be fitted but it is imperative that the installation is installed too the building regulations in document J (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/combustion-appliances-and-fuel-storage-systems-approved-document-j).

Boilers, AGAs, Biomass.

Gas, Oil, Solid fuel and Biomass Boilers and appliances such as AGA /Rayburn, all require regular sweeping. Often requiring specialist knowledge and equipment the flues' are often complex with reduced access. Gas appliances are particularly susceptible to blockages in the flue. Gas flues can produce harmful Carbon Monoxide fumes with only a few dusty cobwebs or if the incorrect cowl has been fitted.

All types of nest including Birds, Wasps and Sqirrels

Nest Removal

Nests can block flues causing Carbon Monoxide poisoning and are a serious Fire Hazard. Birds nests in particular can cause a Biological Hazard resulting in possible disease spread as well as smells, maggots and fly infestations.

Bird Guards Fitted

It is important to fit a long lasting, secure birdguard which complies with current legislation. Bird guards should be stainless steel, of the correct mesh size and be secured to the pot. Many guards and insert cowls are incorrect and dangerous.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an extremely poisonous gas that can be present in the fumes from the combustion of fuel’s which aren’t burnt under the correct conditions. Fuels such as gas, oil, solid mineral fuel and biomass all have the potential to emit CO. The gas cannot be seen, smelled or tasted making it difficult to detect. All rental properties should have working CO detectors by law. There should be a detector for every room where there is an apliance.
